The City of Brandon (population 45,000) is a full service centre with a rich agricultural heritage and boasts amenities, conveniences and a cultural environment typically found in much larger centres. It is nestled along the Assiniboine River, 200 km west of Winnipeg and 100 km north of the United States border. Brandon University has rich traditions as a small liberal education university and is dedicated to the liberal arts and sciences. As well, BU has social science programs, interdisciplinary studies and a number of professional programs of study. BU is also building its capacity in graduate education and offers graduate degrees in music, education, rural development, and most recently, psychiatric nursing.

The Indigenous Health and Human Services (IHHS) degree program is a new and innovative program that provides instruction in indigenous perspectives of holistic health and wellness, traditional approaches to healing, and Western intervention theories and skills. This program combines Aboriginal knowledge and spirituality with courses from the School of Health Studies, and the Faculties of Arts and Science.
BU offers a number of distributed learning courses using a variety of state-of-the-art technologies including video conferencing and a new Cisco Telepresence system. Students have limitless access to wireless Internet services anywhere on campus and we are adaptive to addressing students’ needs for the use of technology. Brandon University is also a co-participant in Campus Manitoba, a distance education program which offers a selection of university-level courses in numerous rural Manitoba communities.
Brandon’s liberal arts curriculum delivers rich content and educates students on how to apply knowledge so that they can make a meaningful difference as engaged citizens and leaders.
